In the last year, many discussions were held regarding police brutality but there were hardly any clear solutions that followed in the political sphere. The city’s mayor Valérie Plante decided that what would be needed this year is a significant increase in the SPVM budget (up to 30M$ so far) despire many alternatives being suggested in response to this problem, one of them being defunding the police. But what does it mean to defund the police? What does that imply? What is the goal of the movement? Many activists took the time to answer all these questions throughout their work but were discredited by mainstream media and politicians. In this episode, we take the time to shed light on their work, taking more than an hour and thirty minutes to talk about it without interruption, sharing statistics and historical facts with the audience which hopefully will help you understand what the defund the police movement is all about.
