Our Editor's Take

Hold Up with Dulcé Sloan & Josh Johnson from The Daily Show is a fun and inviting podcast. The show combines comedy, silliness and banter between two good friends and coworkers.

Standup comedian Dulcé Sloan is famous for her straightforward style and positivity. Her show segments, like "Dumb Solutions to Policing Problems," are much beloved. Writer Josh Johnson also works on The Daily Show. He became Comedy Central's "most watched comedian ever." Suffice to say, they're impressive individuals. But they may be even better together on this podcast.

The Daily Show discusses serious issues. But Hold Up with Dulcé Sloan & Josh Johnson from The Daily Show keeps it fun. This podcast's hosts debate trivial issues with much passion. Dulcé likes to emphasize that they make a point of "never talking about issues that could change the world." Episodes have explored light-hearted, timeless contests. "Chocolate vs. Vanilla" and "Conscious Rap vs. Club Bangers” are two examples. The hosts even argue about “Chicken Soup vs. Tomato Soup.”

The most heartwarming thing about this podcast is how much Dulcé and John make each other laugh. Their familiarity is infectious. They talk over each other and stop each other mid-sentence. It feels like meeting with college friends over brunch.

Meanwhile, their language is inspiring, and their logic is more than relatable. Whether they're feeling something in their "soul meat" or showering with "soap juice," the hosts never fail to illustrate their point. While the debates remain heated, they sometimes do achieve a middle ground. One example was an episode where they argued about online vs. in-store shopping.

At the end of each episode, Dulcé and Josh invite their audience to share. They ask whether they've made valid points and if anyone listening changed their mind throughout the show. Listeners can also get in among the action by suggesting future topics to discuss. Hold Up with Dulcé Sloan & Josh Johnson from The Daily Show has new episodes most weeks.
