Echoes of History

History Hit & Assassin's Creed

Dive into the real-life history that inspires the locations, characters, and storylines of the legendary world of Assassin’s Creed.

‘Echoes of History’, a Ubisoft podcast brought to you by History Hit, is the place where listeners can explore the narrow side streets of Medici-ruled Florence, cross sand dunes in the shadow of ancient pyramids, climb the rigging of 18th century brigs sailing across the Caribbean and meet the most powerful warlords in Feudal Japan, all before stepping ‘into the Animus’ to understand how and why these moments are recreated in the acclaimed historical game series.

Every week, join historian Matt Lewis, and regular contributor Holly Nielsen, as they speak to historical experts about the secrets of the past and uncover how these stories influence Assassin’s Creed.

Our Editor's Take

Echoes of History is a podcast by the creators of the video game Assassin's Creed. The series is an immersive audio documentary. It focuses on legendary figures and events. The Vikings, Knights Templar, Cleopatra, Benjamin Franklin-these are all explored on the show. Anyone who loves history and Norse mythology may find the podcast interesting. The show has expert narration, a revolving team of historians, and reconstructed scenes. All these elements work together to give a commendable depiction of bygone eras.

The podcast has multiple voices behind it. Danny Wallace, Dan Snow, and Lance Geiger have all served as hosts and narrators of Echoes of History. Wallace is an actor, writer, comedian, broadcaster, and filmmaker. The multi-talented Wallace is also the author of Yes Man and Join Me (a book about how he started a cult by accident). He is an integral part of the Assassin's Creed franchise. Wallace has lent his voice and visage to several game editions. Snow is an award-winning British historian and broadcaster. He is the host of another podcast, History Hit. Geiger is famous for his popular YouTube channel, The History Guy.

The first installment of the Echoes of History focuses on the Vikings. It is an accompaniment to the video game Assassin's Creed: Valhalla. The docudrama format of the show draws listeners into the world of the fearless Vikings. The podcast relives those Nordic conquests and explains their myths and beliefs. Listeners may feel like they are riding the so-called “Dragon of the Seas” with the Vikings.

After the debut of the five-part series about the Vikings, the podcast expanded its focus. The following season explores historical figures like the famous artist Leonardo de Vinci. Listeners hear about his life, trials, and accomplishments. Other people discussed on the podcast include Jack the Ripper, Lucretia Borgia, and Marco Polo's ancestors. Dramatic storytelling, voice acting, and excellent background music make this history podcast exhilarating. New Echoes of History episodes come out each week.

The Industrial Revolution: The Birth Of Modern London
The Industrial Revolution began in Britain in the late 18th century, giving birth to an era that has changed world history. The period was characterised by rapid economic, social and technological growth. Marked by innovation and inventions like the steam engine, spinning jenny and telephone, industrialisation also saw a rise in urbanisation, the factory system, poverty and the exploitation of a new urban working class. This in turn led to social and political movements such as communism. Matt Lewis and Tom Furber from The London Archives provide an overview of how the Industrial Revolution came about and transformed the city of London as its epicentre. What were some of the most important advances during this period? What were the effects of rapid industrialisation on Victorian society?Echoes of History is a Ubisoft podcast, brought to you by History Hit. Hosted by: Matt LewisEdited by: Tim ArstallProduced by: Joseph Knight, Peta Stamper, Matt Lewis, Robin McConnellSenior Producer: Anne-Marie LuffProduction Coordinator: Beth DonaldsonExecutive Producers: Etienne Bouvier, Julien Fabre, Steve Lanham, Jen BennettMusic:The Dance Begins by Austin WintorySoothing Syrup by Austin WintoryDanza alla Daggers by Austin WintoryIf you liked this podcast please subscribe, share, rate & review.
