Women In Media

I first met Dr. Pamela Palmater (online) via our work together on SiriusXM’s Turtle Island Talk Series created for The Indigiverse, CH. 165. As a team, we were looking to integrate some new and active voices into the rebranding of what was previously Canadian Indigenous Peoples’ Radio (eye roll). Pam came on as a host of the series and she came with so much knowledge! I felt like I learned more from her in a few short hours working together than I had in years. Pamela Palmater is a Mi'kmaw lawyer, professor, author, podcaster, filmmaker, and producer from Eel River Bar First Nation, who has been creating and producing Indigenous content as part of her public education and advocacy on Indigenous issues since 2012. She is the President and CEO of her own Indigenous production company, Warrior Life Studios Inc. Warrior Life Podcast - featured at digital media, podcast, film, and art festivals - Pam uses her podcast to help lift the voices of Indigenous land defenders, water protectors, advocates, and leaders from all over Turtle Island. Pam is also the producer and host of the award-winning Warrior Kids Podcast which combines her passion for Indigenous cultures, with her desire to educate and inspire young children to take action on social justice and climate change issues. Criminals on Patrol is her latest podcast which turns the crime genre on its head by shining a light on the dark side of the thin blue line by investing the criminality, corruption, and cover-ups in policing. Pam is also working on ParaNative, another podcast that she will produce and host, which takes listeners on a journey into the “ParaNative” revealing the truth behind the Native creatures and otherworldly beings that live among us and challenge age-old stereotypes about Native peoples and the paranormal. In addition to her podcast work, Pam produces, curates, and hosts digital media art in the form of audio and/or video content for special radio shows, artistic events, exhibitions, and stand-alone work for festivals. Her award-winning docu-podcast Samqwan: Water has been produced into a short documentary and selected for the 2023 Native Women in Film, Toronto Short Doc, and Weengushk International Film festivals. You can also see Pam in front of the cameras at public speaking events, art festivals, numerous documentaries, and her own social media content. Her current projects include a television series honouring Indigenous stories where she is host and producer. Pam is also known for her significant work in public education through her mainstream media participation as a political and legal analyst on Indigenous issues, human rights, social justice, and climate change. You can find her on numerous media outlets including SiriusXM, Newstalk 1010 (Toronto), and more. In this episode, Pam talks about launching her new podcast called Criminals On Patrol: https://www.criminalsonpatrol.com  Find out more about Dr. Pamela Palmater: https://pampalmater.com/ https://www.tiktok.com/@pampalmater https://www.instagram.com/pam_palmater/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/pam-palmater-18049515/ https://twitter.com/Pam_Palmaterw short hours working together than I had in years.
