The podcast about chain restaurants. Comedians Mike Mitchell and Nick Wiger review fast food/sit-down chains and generally argue about food/everything.
Doughboys markets itself as a food podcast. In reality, it's a comedy podcast that uses food as its main focus. Episodes are weekly, and every show lasts about two hours. Cohosts Nick Wiger and Mike Mitchell created Doughboys in 2015. Nick is a comedy writer for television and a former member of the Upright Citizens Brigade. Mike is also a comedian. He's made guest appearances on Parks and Recreation, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and The Mindy Project. Every week, Nick and Mike meet with a guest to talk about places to eat and their favorite dishes. But there's a caveat-they only review fast-food and chain restaurants.
The guests on Doughboys include well-known comedians like John Hodgman and Sarah Silverman. Nick and Mike also like to invite newer comedians to join too. In one episode, Arden Myrin from Shameless takes over the show. In another, Adam Pally of Happy Endings joins the podcast. Other guests include Zach Cherry, Paul Scheer, and Marques Ray.
Doughboys' reviews span all types of chain restaurants. The podcast determines which Spitz bowl is their favorite (zesty feta or doner wraps?) They talk about the freshness of Sonic's milkshakes. They decide that Jack In The Box is the ideal midnight treat. They even debate the quality of the sandwiches at Mixt.
Once a year, Mike and Nick have Munch Madness. During that month, the format of the show changes. The podcast hosts pit two chain restaurants against one another. Who will win-Chipotle or Pressed? What about Cava vs. Sweetfin? It might come down to something as subtle as the quality of the pepperoncini. Each Munch Madness ends with a final round, and the winner takes home the Dave Thomas Cup. (Thomas was the founder of Wendy's, known for appearing in his own ads.)
With hosts who like to digress, Doughboys makes a great show for those who enjoy listening to long episodes. Mike, Nick, and their weekly guest may keep listeners entertained throughout. Listeners might also get some good restaurant suggestions out of the podcast.
