True North True Crime is a podcast about unsolved murders and abductions in Canada. The hosts of the show are Caitlin and Graeme.
True crime podcasts are in demand for many reasons. After all, people love a mystery. Unsolved murders make great material for amateur sleuths. The genre also plays an important role in solving cold cases in several ways. It brings unsolved crimes back into public discourse. It pressures law enforcement agencies to devote more resources to a case. Also, it revisits old cases and sometimes uncovers new evidence. The goal of Caitlin and Graeme in making True North True Crime is to bring attention, and even answers, to cold cases.
The cases in True North True Crime belong to three broad categories. First are old missing persons cases and unsolved murders. Graeme and Caitlin collect newspaper articles and police reports from famous cold cases. Travis Kope died of a gunshot wound in Edmonton, AB in 2002. The gunman is still at large. In 1980, three-year-old Jeffrey Dupres disappeared between his house and a neighbor's. There is still no sign of him. Police have not charged anyone for the 2007 murder of Charlene Ward.
Caitlin and Graeme also inform podcast listeners of more recent missing persons cases. They provide details about sixteen-year-old Devon Marsman, who went missing in Spryfield, NS. They provide a hotline for Devon Goodrick, who disappeared in September 2022.
True North True Crime also seeks to address the epidemic of violence against indigenous women. The episodes labeled "MMIWG" focus on First Nations women and girls who have vanished. They also tell the stories of unsolved murders.
True North True Crime performs an important public service in Canada. The show does try to bring justice to victims. However, some of the accounts of gruesome misdeeds are not for family listening. New episodes debut several times each month.
