The performative nature of our country, especially around race, leads us to celebrate Juneteenth and I am glad that we seem to be retaking ownership and pride in this day, which is incomprehensibly significant to Black folks in America. But that celebration cannot and must not be void of the reason behind its existence… oppression and delay.
