We’re loading up in the Shaggin’ Wagon this week and heading someplace warm, a little place called Aspen to look back at one of the comedy classics of the 1990s, Dumb & Dumber. We’ll take a look at the story of two best friends, Lloyd and Harry, who are so clueless that they redefine the limits of human stupidity. 30 years ago this week, we piled into the theater to watch one of the most funny movies we’d seen as teenagers. This week, Rob, Dave and Kurt will try their best to go over all the best parts of Dumb & Dumber, as there aren’t any bad ones and see what hilarity will ensue. In the end, briefcases, hot peppers, Lamborghini’s and big june bugs are on the menu and Harry and Lloyd do everything they can to return a briefcase as we look back at 1994s Dumb & Dumber. This week we’re traveling all the way back to 1987 to look at, perhaps, the best Thanksgiving movie and buddy comedy ever made, Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. A control freak marketing exec and a loudmouthed shower curtain ring salesman team up for the world’s most disastrous road trip. It’s been almost 2 years and the team of Rob and Dave at Totally 80’s and 90s Recall have made it to their 100th episode. This week the hosts take a look back at the Billboard Hot 100 charts in the 80s and 90s. Normally, people look at the #1 songs, or the top 10 or 40 hits, but not this week. On this episode, Rob and Dave look at all of the songs that were ranked at #100 at some point during each year of the 80s and 90s. They’ll then rank their favorites from each year and discuss and possibly disagree on the validity and quality of those songs. Finding gems that hit #100 can sometimes uncover underrated songs and really popular songs that found their way to this part of the list. Often it could be a debut, but also it’s just a song that already peaked higher on the Billboard charts and is now on its way out. It’s SpookTober and what is more iconic than scary dudes with masks looking to chase local babysitters? That’s right, we’re looking at the horror classic, 1978’s Halloween. Directed by John Carpenter, Halloween follows the story of a troubled young boy who turns into a malevolent and unstoppable force as an adult. The 1990’s were a wild time for music. The emergence of so many styles and genres of music made it one of the most eclectic decades of our lifetimes. The sweet and smooth polished sounds of the late 70s and early 80s was deemed soft rock. It had its own radio stations sometimes on the AM dial and became music synonymous with riding in an elevator or waiting in a doctors office. In the early 2000’s, this brand of what was known as Soft Rock was renamed Yacht Rock from a web series, but has now become widely accepted as describing this style of music. Soft or Yacht rock combines jazz, R&B and rock influences to create an easy going feeling about love and a carefree lifestyle. Saturday Night live in the 1980s and 1990s are considered the golden era of the show. During these two decades, the show spawned many legendary performers that would go on to become comedy and movie stars influencing pop culture even to this day. For this week’s episode, Rob and Dave take a look, and rank their favorite SNL performers from this golden era of the 80s and 90s to reveal who are their favorites, and who they think were the funniest and most influential, not quite ready for prime time players. From the ashes of the 90s iconic band Nirvana, rose a rock group that would go on to be one of the biggest in the world, and continue that popularity until today. On this week’s episode, Dave, Kurt and Rob will look back at the Foo Fighters and discuss their greatest songs. The year 1986 was a vibrant time in music, with significant releases across various genres that have had a lasting impact. Huge albums by Bon Jovi, Madonna, Peter Gabriel and Janet Jackson took over the Billboard Charts. 35 years ago this month Motley Crue released their fifth studio album. After years of rocking in a drug and alcohol induced haze, this album Dr. Feelgood was the bands first recording since their dedication to sobriety and rehabilitation. Clear heads definitely prevailed on this album as the song spawned several top 40 singles, became the bands most successful album and really encapsulated the rock sound of the late 80s hair/glam metal explosion. On this episode, Dave and Rob will go back to their Junior High days to relive the fun party vibe that the Crue emitted, and discuss if the album still holds up today. Dr. Feelgood is often regarded as the quintessential album of the glam metal era, and remains a fan favorite to this day. This week we’re heading back almost 40 years to hang out with a couple of horny, nerdy guys back in 1985. This modern day retelling of Frankenstein stars Anthony Michael Hall and Gary Ilan Mitchell-Smith as they decide to create their own girlfriend since their social status makes them social pariahs. Weird Science is a realistic look at what two motivated guys could accomplish with a computer back in the mid 80s, and all of the hijinks that would occur afterward. Rob, Dave and the Movie Hound will strap some bras on their heads and look to avoid Chet as they take a look back at the comedy sci-fi classic. The 90s saw the rise of numerous subgenres within alternative music, including grunge, Britpop, Indie rock and more. The popularity in the early 90s of Nirvana, Pearl Jam and others opened the door for alternative music to become a more mainstream genre in the industry. This allowed artists and bands that were reserved to indie labels to be discovered by major record companies and release albums and songs that are still highly regarded today.
