The Steve Dangle Podcast got its start thanks to a fan's overreaction. Steve "Dangle" Glynn started with a YouTube channel called Leaf Fan Reaction. In a few years, the passionate Toronto Maple Leafs fan was producing videos at Sportsnet. Steve also wrote articles for the Canadian station. One of his video rants about the Maple Leafs got over a million views. Steve then focused his passion for the Leafs on The Steve Dangle Podcast.
In 2019, Steve wrote the book This Team Is Ruining My Life (But I Love Them): How I Became a Professional Hockey Fan. It explains how he was able "to turn a 16-second online rant about the Maple Leafs into a career in sports media." The Steve Dangle Podcast is the flagship of a company with fifteen podcasts and 24 employees.
Steve's cohosts on The Steve Dangle Podcast are Adam Wylde and Jesse Blake. Adam hosted Virgin Mornings in Toronto with Adam Wylde & Jax on 99.9 Virgin Radio (CKFM-FM) Toronto. The show ran for four and a half years. Jesse also hosts The Jesse Blake Sports Report podcast.
Steve's million-view rant came in 2020 when the Leafs lost to a team using an emergency backup goalie. What infuriated Steve was who the goalie was. Steve sputtered, "The Toronto Maple Leafs lost an actual National Hockey League game to a 42-year-old ZAMBONI DRIVER WHO WORKS FOR THEM!"
Steve was much happier in 2023 when the Leafs won a playoff series for the first time in nineteen years. Sportsnet has video of Steve's reaction to John Tavares's winning goal in overtime. Steve screamed, "IT'S GONE IN! THEY'VE DONE IT!… Nineteen years of frustration!… First time I've seen a Leafs handshake line and not been absolutely crushed!" On the podcast, Steve and his cohosts celebrated with kombucha that was blue, in honor of the Leafs. The episode title was "Blue Lipstick."
The Steve Dangle Podcast airs several times a week. No matter what is going on with his Leafs, he will have something to say about it.
