This episode explores the idea of Nigeria's national consciousness. We know that the country was put together without real consideration of its indigenes. So when exactly did we start identifying as Nigerians? And why?
I have Chukwudi Ukonne, writer for The Republic Magazine join me to explore this topic. We discuss how the country came to be and for what reasons, to that end we uncover how the Nigerian identity came from fighting against the colonial government and the pivotal role Nigerian women played in establishing that mindset.
Later on we dive into the constitutional decrees reluctantly imposed by the colonial government in Nigeria's fight for more representation and autonomy. These decrees came with their own problems and have left a legacy for Nigerians today.
