Lift As You Climb

Isabel Banerjee

Have you ever looked in the mirror and asked “Who Am I Now”? As Baby Boomers, we’ve been so busy ‘adulting’ and keeping up with expectations for decades, it is not surprising that we lose touch with ourselves as we evolve and change over time. Growth, transformation, and reinvention with a purpose and a plan are essential to a fulfilled life. Each Wednesday, Isabel Banerjee, self-proclaimed Mistress of Reinvention, unpacks her personal evolution system, Lift As You Climb, and engages guests to share their Ah-Ha moments of recognizing their evolved, authentic selves. Be inspired by others who embrace “This is who I am now!” and choose who they want to become next as they love their life and live their legacy. This podcast celebrates Identity, Influence and Impact at every age and every stage of life!

Hello, Eh!... Isn't that what you expected?... Now that I'm in Canada?   Oh yes, good natured Canadians always get a chuckle out of how we are believed to add Eh... To the end of everything. This is Isabel Banerjee, checking in with you from Canada, as promised. Our last episode of the Lift As You Climb podcast... I told you I was packing up the mic, packing up the podcast equipment, putting it in a container... And I was catching a plane to Canada.  I'm here, checking in... To let you know that I'm safely in the loving, supportive arms of my family and my friends. I am putting together a new life. If you've been following the podcast, you know, episodes have been about change. I've been sharing my own journey, about change... And what I've learned about change in my life. How to do change, how to decode change, how to grieve change, how to change my mind.  I've made a collection of those episodes to make it easy for those of you, that are going through change yourself... Or thinking about change, or wondering how to make change easier than it might have been in the past.   I'm wide open, I'm transparent with you to share... That change is complicated, and it sneaks up and surprises you with all kinds of emotions, and unexpected twists and turns.  And as I promised, even though I packed up the podcast equipment... I wanna let you know that I'm still here working through my change. That I'm the research subject for some of you. Now, I cannot start to record episodes effectively for a little while. Cause my cargo hasn't arrived. My lease starts on November 1st, for my new place... I'm gonna unpack boxes, and reconnect equipment and sign up for services, and jump through lots of hoops! But what I can do for you, in the meantime, is that I am a massing, an incredible lineup of guests... Experts on change... Because they are professionals in areas connected with change. Because they are real living human beings that faced change and made it their own success story. Together, we're all going to share with you... Ideas, resources, and support. So stay tuned, listen up to the collection on the resources already shared. How to decode change, how to grieve change, how to embrace change... When it's okay to change your mind. And I'm gonna be back to you very soon... I promise just a couple of weeks... We're going to have some new content, and we're going to move together... Into the next, and best, role in our lives... So that we can continue to be the success ladders for others, by paving the way forward, holding the torch.  So very happy to check in with you, and I look forward to talking to you really soon.  Oh, and by the way... Gonna put the link to that collection, in the show notes, below this episode. So it's handy for you. Please do share that with anyone that you care about who is going through change, struggling with change, contemplating change... Because you might be able to help them... And that's lifting and climbing.  If you've got some ideas that you would like to share about how to make change more positive and more rewarding... Please send me an email. My contact information is in the show notes, and please recommend guests for the show... Because together, collectively, we can help each other.  Talk to you soon, Eh! Irreconcilable Change | LAYC41
Merriam-Webster dictionary defines irreconcilable difference as the inability to agree on most things or important things. In my case, as for many ‘Grey Divorces’, that was the reason cited for the reason to end our marriage; irreconcilable differences. No fault, no blame, no list of shortcomings, broken promises, or unrealized dreams, no litany of annoying habits, no explanations, no defense - just two words; irreconcilable differences. No long-drawn-out court battle and big legal bills. No mudslinging or blame-gaming. We’d done enough of that in the preceding years and realized that accomplished nothing except deepening the rift in our relationship, and making others who loved us uncomfortable. Once we accepted that our marriage was no longer providing each of us what we wanted for who we are now, we could move forward as people who still cared about each other. We drew up our own settlement terms, consulted with CPAs and employed a mediation lawyer to file the court documents. We accomplished this in weeks, respectfully and co-operatively. Divorce is on the rise in my generation.  Stay tuned over the next few weeks and months as I share from my experience of ‘conscious uncoupling’ and the many facets of change that lead into and through divorce. REFERENCES:  "Gray divorce," also known as "silver splitter" or "diamond divorce," is a term used to refer to the increasing trend of late-in-life divorces. This term first became mainstream in 2004, when https://www.aarp.org/content/dam/aarp/research/surveys_statistics/general/2014/divorce.doi.10.26419%252Fres.00061.001.pdf (AARP published a study) on divorce at "midlife and beyond," and is generally used to describe adults aged 50 or older who are going through a separation. In 2015, every https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2017/03/09/led-by-baby-boomers-divorce-rates-climb-for-americas-50-population/ (10 out of 1,000) couples aged 50 and over got divorced, which was double what their divorce rate had been in 1990. And for those over 65, the increase was even higher — it had roughly tripled in 25 years. In fact, while the overall rate of divorce has continually declined since then, the divorce rate of people over 50 is increasing.  Statistically, gray divorce is and continues to be on the rise, and not just in the United States. https://nationalpost.com/news/canada/grey-divorce-why-are-more-baby-boomers-splitting-up-their-marriages-as-they-get-older (Canada), https://japantoday.com/category/features/kuchikomi/divorce-among-elderly-couples-surging (Japan), https://www.smh.com.au/money/planning-and-budgeting/grey-divorce-has-huge-impact-in-the-retirement-years-20150527-ghah6i.html (Australia), https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/life-style/relationships/love-sex/silver-separators/articleshow/56684289.cms (India), and the https://www.infolaw.co.uk/partners/the-rise-of-grey-divorce-in-2018-why-its-happening-and-how-to-cope/ (United Kingdom) have reported increases in the last decade as well. https://www.businessinsider.com/gray-divorce-attorney-insights-separation-when-older (https://www.businessinsider.com/gray-divorce-attorney-insights-separation-when-older) Why are older people getting divorced? One soon-to-be-divorced woman told me that she sees her life in chapters. And although she thought her current husband would be part of her life through all of them, she now wants to do some of the writing on her own, and perhaps, one day, with another partner. She means no harm to her husband, and wants to free him up to find true happiness in his next chapters as well. Couples aren't simply "drifting apart" over time anymore. One or both people in the marriage are making an overt choice to change course for the time they have left. And recognizing that life is short and precious, one or both partners choose what they feel is the most fulfilling path. They tend to believe that, if a marriage is not...

Grieving Change | LAYC39
Eyes wide shut. I refused to acknowledge the change that was coming at me like a freight train. I refused to take responsibility for my part in this change. I lied to myself that everything was just fine. Just a rough patch. Just temporary relationship growing pains. Not my idea. Not my choice. Not the right timing. Not the future I planned. Not the story I told myself. When change is thrust on you, you may react like a drowning woman, fighting, flailing, struggling to breathe between the gasps and sobs. It’s terrifying, dark, and cold. It feels like death. Been there, done that.  Flailed and floundered, and at times, grabbing on to others, pulling them under with me. But finally, I realized I didn’t want to die or make others suffer through my tempest, and I stopped flailing. Strap on your life preserver and listen in as I share how I made it through the rough weather of being dumped by the man I loved, and how I became the storm. And while you are ‘weather-watching’, throw out a lifeline to friends who have been swamped by unwelcome, unhappy change and bring a little sunshine back to their lives. Change Your Mind | LAYC38
CHANGE YOUR MIND Change Your Mind. Change Your Future. Change Your Attitude. Change Your Relationship. Change Your Relationship With Your Self. Change Your Paradigm. As women, we've been teased about changing our minds as easily as changing our hair color. The inference is, of course, that we make changes too easily, too often. I know this is not true. More often, we stay stuck with a choice, made with different expectations that are not or no longer realized. Change can be good.  Change can be necessary.  Change can be lifesaving - literally. If you are struggling to make a decision about change, try my https://shared.xara.com/6ssW7mFIkD (CHANGE DECODED SYSTEM).  It may help you find some clarity - one choice, one step, one day at a time. Because I said I Would - Remastered | LAYC36Driving Change on a Road Trip | LAYC35
If your nose is pressed to the glass, it’s impossible to see much, and at best, you have a distorted picture of your reality.  You might even end up cross-eyed! With a myopic or shortsighted view of your life, you literally cannot see the forest for the trees or anything else clearly. But, if you allow yourself to step back, or, in this analogy, sit back in the driver’s seat of your life, get behind the wheel and head out on a road trip, you will be amazed how much clarity you’ll gain. Rather than trying to figure out who you are, and what you truly desire by looking through a tiny aperture, put some distance between you and your spaghetti brain, cue up an uplifting playlist and drive! Eyes forward, hands on the wheel, mind open! Let the miles untangle the mess of stress, distractions, and chaos that keep you from visualizing the route to the future you want. Shift gears from a scarcity mindset to an abundance mindset. Accelerate your imagination, and like the breeze through your hair, let the winds blow away self-doubt, self-criticism, and limiting beliefs. Steve Jobs said “. . . you can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.” On a recent road trip, I was reminded once again the white lines on highways are my dots.  I trust they are connecting in my future even though I cannot yet see around that corner. But, without a doubt, I know the dots can only connect if I keep moving forward. If I stop, the trail stops, and I’m left sitting at the curb regretting a journey that I didn’t have the courage to begin. Please join me and my guests in this series about #CHANGE.Over the next few weeks, we’ll navigate the winding curves of lives in transition, and how to find our way to the next level of evolution. We will share how we continue to evolve, become more of ourselves, and increase our capacity to trailblaze, mentor and Lift As We Climb. EXTRA! FULL Transcript: Expiry Date - RemasteredIsabel: What's your expiry date? Yeah, like seriously... Isn't that how society has planned it for us? That we're going to reach a certain age... A stage... Expiry date... Where... We're supposed to just go gently into that sweet night, of obsolescence. As a woman in your 60s, or 70s... A retirement... A family raised... Mortgage paid off... Career... The last hurrah... and... You're just supposed to expire, without an odour of course... Because... What value would we have?... At this age, in our life? Well, that maybe sounds a little dramatic and harsh... But, it's kind of the stereotype, or the programming, that I was raised with... And didn't think much beyond that. And I confess... I was as guilty as the next person, judging me... That I judged older women. As I was growing up... As I was maturing... To be, unnecessary, unimpactful, sometimes inconvenient... Or sometimes just convenient... Because they were there... They were steady, and they were available for babysitting and asking quick questions. I wrote an article sometime back... Just about that.. About... Is there a point of...

Stuck In The MUCK | LAYC30
Stuck In The Muck Here I grow again! But not without resistance and getting a little dirty.   In this episode, I come clean about how it feels to resist the urge to struggle against fear, frustration, and the imposter syndrome.  I share some tools and techniques to reassure our monkey-minds, and slowly extricate ourselves from the psychological muck and move on gracefully.  My recent practice of The Morning Pages from https://juliacameronlive.com/books-by-julia/ (Julia Cameron’s The Artist's Way) has stirred up some shit for me. I no longer need Tarzan to swing by and yank me out of the emotional pit I’ve fallen in. Learn how my special Mastermind group is a lifeline and excavating my subconscious is an essential part of my rescue.   Quote: “ . .  . You're not stuck. You're just committed to certain patterns of behavior because they helped you in the past. Change the formula to get a different result.” ~Emily Maroutian   Bonus: https://youtu.be/AnSCgFgm0Lc (Transformation Decoded YouTube Channel) https://youtu.be/AnSCgFgm0Lc (Episode 12 - Stuck in the Muck) Summary/bullet points of advice “When I feel stuck, I typically ask myself a few questions. What am I avoiding? Why am I avoiding it? And what's it, what's it based around. Is it a story from the past that I've made up or maybe experienced and haven't let go of yet?” ~Jackie Ulmer, Street Smart Wealth   “. . . the word that comes up for me, in that, is this uncomfortable. And I think we're uncomfortable with being uncomfortable. And so muck is kind of dirty. It feels like something we're supposed to avoid. Part of life is muck and you just have to be in it sometimes in order to get out of it,” ~Lee Woodward, Woman In Disguise   RESOURCES: https://juliacameronlive.com/basic-tools/morning-pages/ (https://juliacameronlive.com/basic-tools/morning-pages/)   About the Host: Isabel Banerjee Your Next Business Strategist and Transformation Catalyst Dynamic, a self-made entrepreneur who overcame obstacles with an unrelenting positive nature, a farm girl work ethic, and a conscious choice to thrive rather than survive, Isabel Alexander Banerjee cultivated an award-winning, $10 million+ global chemical business and grew it from dining room table to international boardrooms.   Isabel’s strengths include the ability to initiate & nurture strategic relationships, a love of lifelong learning and talents for helping others maximize their potential. ROCK YOUR AGE with Ashton Applewhite | LAYC29
When are we too old or too young, or when it is too late or too soon, to change our perceptions, expectations, and attitudes about aging? When are we the right age to embrace that aging is an achievement and a benefit to society? My guest today explains how ageism is “stereotyping and discrimination on the basis of a person’s age. We experience it any time someone assumes that we’re “too old” for something—a task, a haircut, a relationship—instead of finding out who we are and what we’re capable of. . .”  from the blog: https://thischairrocks.com/what-is-ageism/ (https://thischairrocks.com/what-is-ageism/) Ashton Applewhite is the author of https://celadonbooks.com/book/this-chair-rocks-a-manifesto-against-ageism/ (This Chair Rocks: A Manifesto Against Ageism ) An internationally recognized expert on ageism, she speaks widely at venues that have included the TED mainstage and the United Nations, has written for Harper’s, the Guardian, and the New York Times, and is the voice of https://yoisthisageist.com/ (Yo, Is This Ageist?) and a co-founder of the https://oldschool.info/ (Old School Anti-Ageism Clearinghouse).  Ashton is a leading spokesperson for the emerging movement to raise awareness of ageism and to dismantle it.             An internationally recognized expert on ageism, she speaks widely at venues that have included the TED mainstage and the United Nations, has written for Harper’s, the Guardian, and the New York Times, and is the voice of Yo, Is This Ageist? and a co-founder of the Old School Anti-Ageism Clearinghouse. Kissing a Beautiful Future Hello with Jenn Harper | LAYC28
More than just lip service to Indigenous BeautyJennifer Harper, edgy girl, alcoholic transformed to CEO change maker, exemplifies Lifting As You Climb, and tireless building of success ladders for many, along her own journey of healing and personal recovery. She grew up disconnected from her indigenous roots and unaware how generational transfer of trauma adversely affected her and millions of others. Jennifer inherited a legacy from the horrific history of residential schools, unhealed wounds, and trauma that native families endured during and beyond colonization. A dream, an awakening, and a vision to make a difference for others are part of the tender yet uplifting conversations I have with this fiercely dedicated young woman. Just a few short years ago, Jennifer Harper did the unthinkable.  She said ‘No Thank You’ and kissed an offer of $125,000 from a Dragon’s Den celebrity Goodbye! Cheekbone Beauty was inspired by Jenn’s dream of children joyful and happy adorned with lip gloss. No matter how ambitious her start-up goals, Ms. Harper refused to seal the deal with a kiss that smudged her vision, and she walked. She kept on walking towards her goal of creating a billion cosmetics brand while donating 10 percent of profits to Shannen’s Dream, which advocates for education funding for First Nations children. Flare.com shared a quote from Ms. Harper: “The reason we exist, our North Star, is the Indigenous youth. We want to make [Cheekbone] so big that no Indigenous kid will ever question their beauty or their worth ever again in the world.” “I really want to be the first Indigenous woman to create a $1 billion beauty brand,” she continues. “For [young people] to see that one of their people can do that makes it attainable for them. When you have someone, who’s done that and you’ve seen it, then you know it’s possible for you. That’s always been the mission.” Read more: https://www.flare.com/identity/cheekbone-beauty-dragons-den-jennifer-harper/ Bonus: Canada NewsWire June 3, 2021 TORONTO, June 3, 2021 /CNW/ - This June, Sephora Canada reveals its first-ever National Indigenous History Month Campaign, to amplify the voices of Indigenous Peoples in Canada , while paying homage to their knowledge, wisdom, diverse strengths, and teachings. Once Upon a Time | LAYC27
The expression ‘Once Upon a Time’ may conjure up thoughts of a time when things were different, perhaps better, or at least simpler.  Generally, these are times fondly or romantically remembered but not always. Once Upon a Time suggests a state of suspended history that we can look back on.  We know from stories of childhood bedtimes that there is always a hero or heroine who saves the day and rescues the defenseless. Ultimately and reassuringly, the good guys win. The witch melts, the dragon is slayed, and the kingdom celebrates once again. But wait! Why is the damsel always in distress? Why is she always beautiful but helpless? Why isn’t she riding in on a charging steed to save the day? Why?  Because the stories are fictionalized versions of women’s potential, value and priorities. REWRITE! YOU are both the prisoner in the tower and the protagonist. You save the day, and you rescue you – yes, YOU! You are your knight in shining armor. You are the only one who can write the happy ending. You are the one who decides how you emerge from this year.  It is your privilege and your responsibility to write a new script for the future – the next chapter of your life, a new role, your encore. You may call it a pivot, reinvention, a new direction.  Whatever label you choose, what happens next is up to you.  RESOURCES: Free Download: http://www.myencore.me (www.MyEncore.ME) Reading: https://www.whoaminowbook.com (https://www.whoaminowbook.com) Listen in or read and share your thoughts with thehttps://www.facebook.com/groups/liftasyouclimbmovement/ ( Lift As You Climb) community Facebook Group!   About the Host: Isabel Banerjee - Your Next Business Strategist and Transformation Catalyst   Dynamic, a self-made entrepreneur who overcame obstacles with an unrelenting positive nature, a farm girl work ethic and a conscious choice to thrive rather than survive, Isabel Alexander Banerjee cultivated an award-winning, $10 million+ global chemical business and grew it from dining room table to international boardrooms. We FIX You Industries | LAYC26
Do you feel like big corporations and trending influencers, coaches, and practitioners are intent on making us feel “less than”, not good enough, and that we need fixing or remaking into their idea of valued members of society? The older I get, the more I resent this condescending marketing! “Like racism and sexism, ageism serves a social and economic purpose: to legitimize and sustain inequalities between groups. It’s not about how we look. It’s about how people in power assign meaning to how we look.” credit; Ashton Applewhite https://thischairrocks.com/what-is-ageism/ (https://thischairrocks.com/what-is-ageism/)Recently, I celebrated my two-thirds of a century birthday and decided to consciously allocate my spending to vendors that provide goods and services to enhance all my senses, experience and quality of life for the woman I am, at the age I am thrilled to be!  We Fix You Industries; can you hear me now? Can You Bank On Your Friendships | LAYC25
Dr. Stephen R. Covey used a great metaphor for close relationships as joint emotional bank accounts. “By proactively doing things that build trust in a relationship, one makes ‘deposits.’  Conversely, by reactively doing things that decrease trust, one makes ‘withdrawals.’  The current ‘balance’ in the emotional bank account, will determine how well two people can communicate and problem-solve together.”  Today we talk about the reality that friendships worth having, require cultivation and nurturing. Why are we surprised when a friendship fades away or ends abruptly? As we evolve and grow as individuals, our needs change and so do our abilities and resources. Change affects friendship and being aware of this is essential to enjoying healthy, balanced relationships. Caregiver, Mess, and Masterpiece with Lisa Zawrotny | LAYC24
You don’t become a better caregiver by sacrificing your own self-care. In this interview, Lisa Zawrotny shares bittersweet and challenging life experiences of a ‘Sandwich Generation” caregiver. Falling primarily on the shoulders of women is the ultra-demanding role of caretaker of parents with health issues or age-related disabilities. In Lisa’s case, that also included Alzheimer’s complexity, while simultaneously raising her children, managing households, social and school schedules, doctors’ appointments and medications. Typically, these women are also juggling their careers or businesses and trying to be a good spouse, partner, friend, and volunteer. Through this challenging physical, emotional, and financial journey, Lisa realized, just in time, denying your own self-care does not make you a better caregiver. This wake-up call was the beginning of her transformation from surviving in overwhelm to thriving and being positively productive. Bonus: Lisa gifted us by sharing one of her favorite and very fitting quotes; "You are allowed to be both a masterpiece and a work in progress simultaneously." by Sophia Bush. Teaser: Stay tuned to the end of this episode when Lisa reveals something completed unexpected about her. Warning – this velvet voice can kick your ass! About our Guest: Lisa is a productivity coach certified in time & stress management. She helps stressed out, multi-passionate entrepreneurs use simplicity, self-care, and systems to boost productivity, balance business and family, and avoid burnout. As a Productivity Coach and host of the Positively Living Podcast, Lisa founded Positively Productive Systems in 2016 after a deeply overwhelming time in her life, juggling multiple roles as a caregiver, wife, mother, and business owner.  Now, she is on a mission to help multi-passionate, service-based entrepreneurs who struggle with wasted time and energy, reduce their stress, and optimize their life and business.  Podcast: https://positivelyliving.buzzsprout.com/1011307%09 (https://positivelyliving.buzzsprout.com/1011307 ) Learn more about our guest: http://www.instagram.com/positively_lisa (www.Instagram.com/positively_lisa) http://www.twitter.com/positively_lisa (www.Twitter.com/positively_lisa) http://www.facebook.com/positivelyproductive (www.Facebook.com/positivelyproductive)   About the Host: Isabel Banerjee - Your Next Business Strategist and Transformation Catalyst Dynamic, a self-made entrepreneur who overcame obstacles with an unrelenting positive nature, a farm girl work ethic, and a conscious choice to thrive rather than survive, Isabel Alexander Banerjee cultivated an award-winning, $10 million+ global chemical business and grew it from dining room table to international boardrooms. Best Friends Day Everyday | LAYC23
“I get by with a little help from my friends” by The Beatles is the epic and perfect theme song for today’s episode! It’s June 8, 2021 and I am celebrating all friends on National Best Friends Day. I remind myself that my best friends deserve to be celebrated every day!
