The ruling BJP secured a historic third term in Haryana, winning 48 Assembly seats. The Congress, meanwhile, won 37 seats, Independents stood at 3 and the INLD won 2 seats. In the JK UT, The NC-Congress alliance crossed the 46-seat majority mark, securing 49 seats . The NC won the highest number of seats at 42, the Congress took six, and the Communist Party of India (Marxist), which was also part of the alliance, secured one. Meanwhile, the BJP won 29 seats and the PDP bagged three. Seven Independents were declared victorious. The AAP and Jammu & Kashmir People Conference secured one seat each.The final rites of Ratan Tata, the legendary industrialist and Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons, were performed with full state honors on Thursday evening. Tata, 86, breathed his last on Wednesday night at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital. Among those who paid respects to the business tycoon are Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Minister Piyush Goyal, Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel, and industrialist Mukesh Ambani. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has proposed that a Bharat Ratna be awarded to Tata, posthumously.Setting the stage for a new tussle between the Aam Aadmi Party and the L-G office, the CMO on Wednesday claimed that Chief Minister Atishi was “forcibly vacated” from the residence at Civil Lines, which was previously occupied by Arvind Kejriwal. “Delhi CMs residence was forcibly vacated at the behest of the BJP as Lt Governor V K Saxena wants to allot it to a saffron party leader,” the CMO said. This comes two day after Atishi was asked to vacate the bungalow by officials from the Public Works Department (PWD)- a department under her own charge. The Aam Aadmi Party claims that Atishi followed all formalities before moving in, but the PWD says that an official “handover” of the property from Kejriwal to the department is yet to take place. The house has now been sealed.Maldives President Muhammad Muizzu reached New Delhi Sunday on his first bilateral State visit and was received at the airport by Minister of State (External Affairs) Kirti Vardhan Singh. During his five-day visit — from October 6 to 10 — he travelled to Agra, Mumbai and Bengaluru. Both Modi and Muizzu launched Rupay card in the Maldives, inaugurated the new runway at the Hanimadhoo International airport and agreed to further strengthen bilateral relations that had hit a rocky patch last year.US President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had a call on Wednesday amid tensions with Iran. The 30-minute call was the first known chat for Biden and Netanyahu since August and coincides with a sharp escalation of Israel's conflict with Iran and the Iran-backed Lebanese Hezbollah, but with no sign of an imminent ceasefire to end the conflict with Iran-backed Hamas in Gaza. As the results emerged on Tuesday, giving the BJP a clear victory, Congress general secretary in-charge of communications Jairam Ramesh raised questions over the counting process. Addressing a press conference, he said that polling booths with electronic voting machines that had 99 per cent battery charge saw BJP wins while those with 60-70 per cent charge had Congress victories.The body of the Territorial Army personnel, who was abducted by militants a day ago from the Kokernag forests in South Kashmir, has been recovered by the Army during a search operation this morning. According to the sources in the security establishment, the personnel abducted by the militants was a 26-year-old resident of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district. The Army’s Chinar Corps, earlier in the day, had said via a post on X: “Based on intelligence input, a joint counter operation was launched by Indian army along with Jammu and Kashmir Police and other agencies in Kazwan forest on 8th October. This marks the first time a major party has rejected an electoral outcome citing EVM tampering. Meanwhile, The National Conference and Congress alliance is poised to form the government in Jammu and Kashmir after the first Assembly election in a decade for the Union Territory. National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah won decisively in both Budgam and Ganderbal constituencies. Following Omar’s victory in Budgam, his father and NC Chief Farooq Abdullah stated that he will become the CM. The two leaders witnessed the exchange of five pacts including one on currency swap and other on training of judicial officers, prevention of corruption, law enforcement training, sports and youth affairs. They also launched the Rupay card in the Maldives, handed over 700 social housing units and inaugurated a new airport runway at the Hanimaadhoo International Airport.The ED began a raid at the residence of Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora, confirmed a source from the Central agency, on Chandigarh Road in Ludhiana early today. The source from ED said the raid at Arora’s residence at Hampton Homes colony was in connection with a chunk of land that was allotted to him by the Punjab government some years ago. The source further said, “The land was allotted for an industrial project, but the agreement was breached, and the land was used for a residential project.”Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court granted bail today to Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad, his sons Tejashwi Yadav and Tej Pratap Yadav in a money laundering case linked to the alleged land-for-jobs scam. The case, in which the accused were summoned after taking cognisance of a supplementary chargesheet, pertained to Group-D appointments made in the West Central Railway Zone in Jabalpur when Lalu was Railways Minister, allegedly in return for land parcels for his family and associates. All the accused were granted relief on a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh each, noting that they were mentioned in the chargesheet, but not arrested. The matter will now be heard on October 23 and 24.Today marks a year of the war in West Asia which was sparked by the Hamas-led militant attacks on southern Israel. The attack which triggered Israel’s military assault on Gaza still continues to intensify putting West Asia on the brink of all-out war. News agency Reuters reported, the Palestinian militant group in Gaza fired four rockets into Israel today. The Israeli military said there were no  casualties as three rockets were intercepted and a fourth fell in an open area. The forces have also launched a wave of artillery and airstrikes overnight, targetting Hamas launch posts and underground militant infrastructure.Two Chinese nationals were killed in a blast near Paskistan’s Karachi airport on Sunday night, which the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan described as a “terrorist attack.” Pakistani broadcaster Geo News reported that at least ten people were injured in the explosion. As reported by news agency Reuters, the separatist militant group Baloch Liberation Army claimed responsibility for the explosion in a statement emailed to journalists. Additionally, while hearing a clutch of petitions, the Bench also sought to know why Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu went public with the matter without waiting for the report of the investigation ordered by his government. The court asked the Centre to respond if the Special Investigation Team set up by the Andhra Pradesh Government should continue to probe the allegations.  The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly polls wrapped up on Tuesday as voting was underway for the final 40 seats in the third and largest phase of the elections. A voter turnout of 65.65 per cent was recorded on Tuesday. In contrast to the first two phases, the bulk of the seats in the third one totalling to 24 seats are in the Jammu division, while 16 are in Kashmir. According to the Election Commission, the second phase of the J&K polls on 25th of September recorded a voter turnout of 57.31 per cent and 61.38 per cent in the first phase. Results will be announced on 8th of October.The Supreme Court on Tuesday stated that the guidelines it will lay down for demolitions of unauthorised constructions will be applicable pan-India and for all religions. The bench said it will make it clear that merely because a person is an accused or even a convict, it can’t be a ground for demolition of property. The court further added that it was not encouraging encroachments and cluttering of footpaths. Sources said that the Congress leader has sought time to appear in front of the agency. The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) added that “over 150 terrorist infrastructure sites have been destroyed in air strikes, including Hezbollah’s HQ, weapon storage facilities, and rocket launchers.” Meanwhile, Hezbollah said it was clashing with Israeli troops in the border town of Maroun el-Ras after it had pushed back forces near another border town. The group said it had also fired rockets at military posts inside Israel. This comes at a time when the conflict between Israel and Iran escalated following Tehran firing a barrage of missiles at Tel Aviv on Tuesday.67 Indians trapped in job scams in Cambodia have now been rescued, the Indian Embassy in Phnom Penh announced today. While 39 of them have already reached India, 28 others will be leaving Cambodia soon, it added. THe embassy in a statement declared: “The Embassy of India, Phnom Penh has been actively engaged in rescuing and repatriating Indian nationals trapped in fraudulent job offers obtained through fake agents, who lure them into cyber crime in scam compounds. On 22 September, following specific leads by the Embassy, the Cambodian Police rescued 67 such Indian nationals from Poipet."Three people were killed this morning when the helicopter they were flying in crashed in the Bavdhan area of Pune while on its way to Mumbai. Vinoykumar Choubey, Police Commissioner, Pimpri Chinchwad, confirmed the deaths. According to the police, the deceased have been identified as Girishkumar Pillai, Pritamchand Bharadwaaj, and Paramjeet.Days after CPI(M) said it had “snapped all ties” with Left-backed legislator PV Anvar, another party-backed independent legislator and former minister KT Jaleel today said he would quit electoral politics after the term of the current Kerala Assembly ends in 2026. In contrast to the first two phases, the bulk of the seats in the third one totalling to 24 seats are in the Jammu division, while 16 are in Kashmir. According to the Election Commission, the second phase of the J&K polls on 25th of September recorded a voter turnout of 57.31 per cent and 61.38 per cent in the first phase. Results will be announced on 8th of October. Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi at a curtain raiser event today said that there had been “positive signalling” at the diplomatic level from both India and China regarding the ongoing military standoff between the two countries along the Line of Actual Control  in eastern Ladakh, and that military commanders from both sides would now sit together to see how this can be translated on the ground.
