Our Editor's Take

The V Interesting with V Spehar podcast is TikTok star Vitus Spehar's exploration of the world of podcasting. Spehar, known as V, describes the series as a sleepover party with friends. The only difference is that V is the friend, and the conversation is all about the state of the world. On TikTok, V delivers quick news updates called Under The Desk News. V understands that the news can sometimes seem negative and even scary. For this reason, they deliver updates in a kind and balanced way with lots of positivity added to the mix.

One V Interesting with V Spehar episode shares a fun and inspiring interview with daytime TV legend Ricki Lake. V shares the impact Ricki's talk show had on their life as they grew up. They admit to watching it each day to discover what was happening in the world. Ricki talks about treating every guest and relationship with respect. In this way, she offered people a fair and positive representation in the media. It's this that V found so compelling growing up in the '90s.

As well as chat show stars and comedians, V also chats with experts for more educational episodes. In one V Interesting with V Spehar episode, V talks to Dr. Jen Lincoln about sex education. Lincoln wants to make reproductive education accessible to everyone. She's trying to make this happen by sharing informative content on TikTok. In the episode, V asks her about everything from reproductive rights to how to use menstrual cups. As with every episode, listeners may be sure to learn something new.

Listeners can expect two things from the V Interesting with V Spehar podcast. They will hear new episodes twice a week and get an open invitation into the conversation. V wants to make it a two-way dialogue with their listeners. Commentary and questions from the evolving community feature throughout.

Throwback: Let’s Talk About Down There with Dr. Jen Lincoln
“Don’t have sex. You will get pregnant — and die.” This line was delivered by a fictional high school coach in the movie Mean Girls, but it alludes to a real problem within the education system: that the vast majority of U.S. states don’t teach medically accurate or inclusive sex education. Dr. Jennifer Lincoln, an OBGYN and author, is trying to change that. Instead of scaring or shaming people, she’s meeting them where they are and setting the record straight, starting with the vulva. In this throwback episode, V invites Dr. Jen to answer all the necessary questions about periods, STIs, pubic hair, and vaginal emergencies. Plus, she gives a look at the lengths she’s had to go to educate, like planting books in libraries where talk of contraception and abortion is restricted.Follow Dr. Jen on Twitter at @DrJenLincoln and at @drjenniferlincoln on Instagram and TikTok. Pick up Dr. Jen’s book, Let's Talk About Down There, and check out her website on reproductive healthcare products.Keep up with V on TikTok @underthedesknews and on Twitter @VitusSpehar. Bonus: Environmental Justice and the Climate Crisis

Bonus: Environmental Justice and the Climate Crisis
Currently, the dominant framing of climate in our media and policy ecosystems centers stories, experiences, and thus solutions that serve privileged communities. The Hip Hop Caucus is working to help rewrite this narrative and center the climate movement in a justice framework. V asks Hip Hop Caucus’ Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer Liz Havstad why we need to stop thinking of the climate crisis as just an environmental issue, how to spot greenwashing on social media, and how you can get involved in the movement.   This episode is made possible in partnership with the Walton Family Foundation, a family-led foundation that tackles tough social and environmental problems with urgency and a long-term approach to create access to opportunity for people and communities. Learn more at waltonfamilyfoundation.org.   Thank you to Liz Havstad from the Hip Hop Caucus for participating in today's discussion. The Hip Hop Caucus uses the power of our cultural expression to empower communities who are first and worst impacted by injustice.
